HG Rec Summer Day Camps

We are committed to providing safe and engaging day camps to local youth ages 5 – 12 years. COVID-19 has challenged in-person delivery in 2020, but we’re hoping to run in-person day camps in 2021 with a few changes to how we do it! Our camps will have 10-12 registrants per week. We will be outside as much as possible. Activities will be designed in a way that if camp participants need to miss a day or two of programming due to illness or we need to go to summer camp-at-home, we can merge seamlessly into package delivery/virtual options for them. We will combined themed camp activities with healthy snack delivery, workshops from local instructors, and healthy snack delivery in partnership with Local Food to Schools.*

We have two themes for in-person camps this year:

  • Dragons & Fairies (Week 1)
  • Ocean Adventure (Week 2)

*We do not provide lunch. Please make sure your child/ren come prepared with food + water bottle.

What to Expect at Camp this Summer

Let’s get outside this summer and embark on a dragon-egg scavenger hunts, run relays where we jump through rings of fire and cross moats into castles, launch water balloons in catapults, visit (fairy) community gardens, explore the intertidal, celebrate with a beach-themed balloon drop at the end of camp, and more! Open to ages 5 to 12 years on Haida Gwaii.

Camps will run for 2 weeks in Queen Charlotte, Masset, Port Clements, and Sandspit. We have limited space (max. 12 participants per week) and will keep a waitlist.

We have two themes for camps this year:

  • Dragons & Fairies (Week 1)
  • Ocean Adventure (Week 2)

We are designing camps to accommodate kids having to stay home due to illness or adjustments to delivery-only or virtual camp options. Last year we offered package delivery with our Summer Camp-At-Home with activities, instructions, and healthy snacks. If participants need to stay home due to illness, activities from camp will be available for parents/guardians to pick-up. If public health orders shift and in-person camps are no longer permitted, our contingency plan is to have activities and/or virtual program delivery to our registrants.

SAMPLE WEEKLY ITINERARY: 

The deadline for registration is 4:00PM PDT the Friday before camp or when camp registration is full. Sorry, no drop-in available.

Our staff will do our best to accommodate all ages and abilities in our programs. Once we’re aware of ages and skill levels of registrants, we will adjust programming to meet the needs. *We will be using outdoor spaces in communities for programming, including fields, playgrounds, in-town beaches, community gardens, golf courses, etc. Please ensure your child/ren are prepared with proper footwear and attire. We will provide parents/guardians with a camp itinerary on the first day of camp with a list of items to pack each day as a reminder.

  • Week Two: August 3 – August 6, 2021 (4-days only – no camp on BC Day)- Theme: Ocean Adventure 

Sandspit*

  • Week One: August 9 – August 13, 2021 – Theme: Dragons & Fairies 
  • Week Two: August 16 – August 20, 2021 – Theme: Ocean Adventure 

*Vaccine clinics scheduled for community halls may impede program delivery on the dates above. Camp dates may need to be adjusted to accommodate. We are booked at the Sandspit Community Hall for the last week of August as a contingency (August 23 – 27), as camps may need to be pushed to a later week. We will advise parents/guardians of any changes.

COST:

  • $80/child for 4-day week
  • $100/child for 5-day week

COVID-19 SAFETY PLAN: The COVID-19 Safety Plan will be on-site and sent it to all registrants, as well as posted on our website (www.hgrec.com/covid-19/).

CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refund with 7 days advance notice or if absence due to illness. For children unable to attend due to illness, a package will still be available for parents/guardians to pick-up at the camp. Please do not bring your child/ren to camp if you or someone in the household shows signs of illness. Pre-screening will be done daily.
