In-town summer camps

HGREC Camps

Haida Gwaii Recreation has been providing affordable, in-town summer day camps for local youth for over 40 years! In our camps, we combine a weekly theme with fun activities that include sport, art, and getting outside, along with healthy snacks & engaging workshops delivered by local instructors (Camp Specialists).

NEW IN 2025

  • Our Summer Camps will have a new minimum age of 8 years up to maximum age 12 years. NO camp on Mondays (prep days for staff or weekly programs offered in neighbouring communities).
  • We are looking to partner with Engage Sport North to build and enhance our summer camp curricula in 2025 and beyond.
  • Camps do not include lunch, but one healthy snack provided.
  • Given demand, families may only be eligible to put their child/ren in ONE week of camp. We will see how this goes!
  • Science Al!VE camps are for grades 3 (must have completed grade 3) to grade 7.
  • We are committed to supporting partner in-town camps, amplifying the opportunity for recreational childcare in our communities. We will aid in ScienceAl!ve registration in 2025 via our website. If you are a contractor offering a camp and need support with registration/insurance, reach out in Spring 2025 with your ideas under About > Get Involved.

More info coming soon! Stay tuned for registration in May 2025.

Science AL!VE at TEDxKids!

Science AL!VE strives to engage youth in hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & design, Mathematics) programs to build measurable skills and improve self-confidence. We offer summer camps, weekend clubs, online workshops and resources for teachers.

Aligned with SFU Faculty of Applied Sciences’ mandate, we aim to dispel stereotypes in the field of science and engineering and work towards achieving diversity and inclusion. We work to empower those traditionally underrepresented groups in STEAM by developing barrier-free programs for girls, under-served youth and Indigenous communities.
