After-School Recreation for Children.

End every school day with Haida Gwaii recreation! We provide programming for all children in our community so that their time after-school can be spent developing life skills. We provide an environment where all-kids belong and can explore, learn and have fun together.

Discover our variety of enriching after-school programs.

Our After-School Programs help develop Haida Gwaii youth through a variety of educational activities. All programs are free and include a healthy snack for participants. Please complete the general registration and waiver form below for each child if you have not done so already. To register for a specific program, please contact ASSAI Coordinator Laura Bishop at hgrecafterschool@gmail.com or 250-626-9045 and identify which program and location you wish to register for.

ASSAI | SEIDO KARATE | gr 4-7

An event every week that begins at 3:00pm on Monday, repeating until December 18, 2018

SEIDO KARATE Seido seeks to develop in each student a 'non-quitting' spirit. No matter what the obstacle or difficulty -- emotional, physical, financial -- we want students to feel empowered to overcome any challenge. This modern interpretation of the samurai's bushido spirit is what the sincere practice of karate can develop in an individual regardless of age, ability or background. Our inclusive mission allows for drill modifications and other considerations for body safety, so anyone who wants to train can participate while still being challenged. Classes will include a combination of: -Practical Self Defence -Formal Karate Skills -Karate & Seido History -Games! Mondays October 15 – December 17 (No program November 12th) 3:00-5:00pm Tahayghen small Gymnasium Grade 4-7 | maximum 15 participants | healthy snacks provided

Get rolling with the Gwaii Rollergirls! In this program, students will strap on safety gear and skates and get moving on the John Lalonde Roller Rink in Masset! Skate, stop, spin: all girls ages 10-16 welcome! No experience necessary! Please bring a water bottle and wear comfortable, close fitting clothing (padding goes over top), and don’t forget your positive attitude! An event every week that begins at 3:00pm on Thursday, repeating until December 14, 2018

This program will involve a mix of outdoor play and nature crafts. Students will get to explore outside in search of materials to use in creating art. The instructors will lead participants in games and in making unique environmentally themed arts and crafts. Come with weather appropriate clothing, boots, and creativity!
