Funding

The Moresby Island Travel Fund was created by Haida Gwaii Recreation to increase access to recreation opportunities and programs for Moresby Island residents, as well as encourage all-island attendance of recreation programs and events on Moresby Island.

This fund can be used to reduce travel barriers for the following:

• Haida Gwaii all-island sports (soccer, basketball)
• Haida Gwaii all-island programs and events (art shows, theatre, live music)
• Recreation programs or events on Graham Island (Morseby Island residents)
• Recreation programs or events on Moresby Island (Graham Island residents)

To access this fund, please submit the original copies (only) of your BC Ferries receipts and description of the program attended to:
Haida Gwaii Recreation, PO Box 187, Masset V0T 1M0.

Please note that receipts must be received within 30 days of travel, and will be reimbursed to a maximum of $200.00 per person and/or household.

To residents returning to Haida Gwaii after completing a treatment* program in the south: if you’d like to access the Daajing Giids Weight Room, please don’t hesitate to reach out confidentially to info@hgrec.com.

In 2025-26, Haida Gwaii Recreation and the Haida Gwaii School District are offering a membership to the Daajing Giids weight room for individuals in recovery this year (cost is $105-120/year). Access will begin following a brief monthly group orientation.

We recognize how important access, trust, and belonging are in our recreation spaces. We keep costs low so mental health funding can cover an annual membership within this community, but not everyone has access. As Haida governments put dollars into treatment and support while away, we recognize our role in community to support the recovery journey at home. 

We also invite other gyms, organizations, and partners to consider how they too can help make their recreation spaces low-barrier and/or more inclusive and recovery-friendly on Haida Gwaii for those who need it.
